30th December, but since that date Sir William Peel has died. To replace him I suggest the name of Sir Thomas Southorn who might well be invited to be Chairman of the Committee.
In view of the disinclination expressed by
Mr. Morse, to serve on another Committee for which the name of Sir William Hornell was proposed, I have thought it as well to ascertain that Mr. Morse would have no objection to serving on this Committee with Sir William Hornell and Mr. Morse has agreed that he would be prepared to do so. The proposal for the Committee, therefore, stands as follows:-
Sir Thomas Southorn (Chairman) Sir William Hornell
Mr. Morse
Mr. Kauntze
Mr. N. L. Smith
In fact the Committee will have very little to do except to take formal action for the conferrment of Medical Degrees, on recommendations submitted by Doctor Gordon King.
Mr
I have spoken to Haseltine of the G. M. C. who says that they do not wish either to see the draft of the Order in Council (which they are prepared to leave entirely to the C.0) or to nominate a Member of the Committee for the conferrment of degrees. In fact it would be an embarrassment to them to be invited to nominate a member of this Committee.
If you agree, I propose now to proceed as follows:
(a) Submit the draft Order for final vetting by
(60)
Mr Roberts-Wray.
Then send copies of the draft to the suggested members of the Committee with a short explanatory letter asking them if they would be prepared to serve upon it.
(c) Simultaneously to arrange for the issue of
the Order.
